Living the Tabletop Daydream

Resources, brainstorming, and plenty of mad ideas for Warcry, Call of Cthulhu, Dungeons & Dragons, along with our own homebrew material and modules.

Free Call of Cthulhu Scenario Bail Jumper of St. Isidore Is Now Available

It’s been a long time coming to the surface, but our second standalone module for 7th Edition Call of Cthulhu tabletop RPG is now available!

Set in the same universe as our previous offering (The Mask of the Black Sun), The Bail Bumper of St. Isidore takes place in the 1920s classical era in a fictional city called Salem Falls in Canada’s Maritimes.

The investigators are tasked with retrieving a mysterious artifact referred to as a “Turkish box” that was recently stolen. Along the way, they will learn about missing people, a mysterious buyer for the artifact, and track down the thief before something from inside the box drags him into a hellish dimension.

There’s some roleplaying, some light investigative work, a bit of combat, and a climactic scene that involves putting together a Mythos spell to stop a monster.

Like our other scenario, it’s meant to be played in a single session of roughly 3-5 hours and should be a great fit for newer players or Game Masters.

It’s currently available at DriveThruRPG priced FREE or Pay What You Will (in this economy, who can afford nice things for themselves – but if you can, it’s always appreciated).

The Foetid Lands Pack for Warcry now available in French

Happy springtime folks. We’re fresh off participating in the Third Annual Golden Troll Warcry Tournament of Montreal (which we will be updating about in the days to come). Tavern Openings – Free PDF to Help You Make Interesting Taverns

Ever notice how taverns are a recurring location in Dungeons & Dragons, either as a wayside stop or an opening location? Well, we certainly did. Apart from having recently shared some thoughts about what we love about D&D taverns, we also decided to put together a handy 2-page PDF that can help you make your…

Five Types of Horror and How to Run Them at the Game Table

Running horror campaigns can be a real blast. Few things get players as engaged and invested in their characters than the chance something terrible is lurking right around the corner. That said, I suspect that there’s a mistake GMs make more than they probably realize.  Namely, when deciding to run a horror campaign, they just…

Golden Troll Warcry Tournament 2026 – Registrations Open

A great announcement to share for early in the year- the Golden Troll Tournament (Warcry) will return for its 3rd year in April 2026. We’ve been fortunate to attend the past two, in 2025 and 2024 (where I was lucky enough to win). Here are the details from the organizer: The 3rd Golden Troll Tournament…

We’re Quest & Cartridge (not to be confused with those other guys)

So this is strange. I was doing a Google search today for our website and spotted something odd in the AI summary (you know, the summaries we can’t avoid anymore). Some of the info about us was correct, but a lot was, well, not. Clicking some of the links, however, made it clear why. Some…

Koriolan One-Page RPG Scenario has been downloaded over 250 times!

So this is nice to see. The one-page system agnostic cassette punk inspired scenario we released last year (called Koriolan) has been downloaded a lot. Like 250 times a lot. Over on our Itch.io where it’s hosted it had just shy of 250 the last time I checked earlier in the month. But that’s not…

The 2025 Golden Troll Warcry Tournament – Recap and Results

Back on March 8th, the 2nd Annual Golden Troll Warcry Tournament was played out in Montreal. I was fortunate to attend again (even if the logistics of two kids and a long drive complicated things a bit). While I won last year’s event (after a brutal tie-breaker rematch), I came in 3rd out of 6…

Is Listbuilding Even Possible for the Questor Soulsworn?

One of the warbands I’ve been thinking about a lot lately, has been whether the Questor Soulsworn. I’ve always loved this warband – both in terms of their style, how much fun they were to paint, and how great they are to play. I think they’re my favourite SCE models and for a chunky 6-man…

3-Player Warcry Scenario Ruleset – Desperate Defence

3-Player Warcry games are often frantic and nerve-wracking affairs – in other words, some of the best tabletop out there. However, there’s not a ton of scenarios for 3-player games as opposed to 2-player scenarios. The following post details one of the free 3-player Warcry scenarios that we recently released in the Foetid Lands pack.…
